Food and Drink

In preparation for surgery, a low-calorie liquid diet is recommended about one to four weeks before the procedure. This diet typically includes two or more protein shakes daily and eight glasses of zero-calorie liquids like water, Crystal Light, and unsweetened tea.

Stay hydrated. Aim for an average of 1.5 litres  of water daily during this period. You can only consume clear liquids one or two days before surgery. 

Medications 

Before surgery, you will ask to stop certain medications, including nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like Motrin (ibuprofen) or Aleve (naproxen), oral contraceptive pills in case taking .

Loose  weight

You must start a workout routine to lose and maintain an appropriate weight for surgery. Prior weight loss helps in quick recovery after surgery & better results.

Eliminate nicotine and tobacco

You will be recommended to stop smoking and nicotine use for at least three months before surgery to reduce severe complications during surgery, particularly impaired wound healing. 

Eliminate alcohol

Avoiding alcohol will prepare your liver for surgery and also give protection from complications like metabolic liver disease.   

Choose healthy foods

Eat lean meats, proteins, leafy green vegetables, and fruits, and develop a habit of having three healthy meals. Sugar and processed fat food should be avoided.

Take photos

Capture yourself before and after the surgery, and you can compare your condition before and after surgery. This will keep you motivated.

On the day of surgery, avoid wearing the following things on the day of surgery:

  • Jewelry.
  • Makeup.
  • Fingernail polish.
  • Perfume.
  • Deodorant.
  • Moisturizers.

Expectations during surgery: 

  • You will wear a hospital gown.
  • A peripheral IV will placed for recording vital signs, and antibiotics will also start.
  • The surgeon will make you feel comfortable and brief you about the procedure.

After that, you will be moved to the operating room for the surgery. You will be given recovery instructions.
